Programme of the anniversary week 20.10.–26.10.25

Biosfääri ry’s anniversary week is celebrated 20.10.-26.10.2025. This publication contains all the events of the week and their information. If anything raises questions, you can contact the board via email: hallitus[a]biosfaari.org

All events follow Biosfääri ry’s principles of a safer space:

We treat others as we would like to be treated
We take everyone into consideration, give everyone the floor and talk so that everyone can understand. We listen and respect everyone.

We don’t make assumptions about others.
We do not make unnecessary assumptions about other people’s identity, gender, sexual orientation, or other characteristics. Everyone’s life situation and experiences are different.

We are open and listen
We strive to be open and open-minded towards everyone, because everyone is different. There is no room in Biosfääri for intolerance, violence or discrimination in any of its various forms! Intolerance, violence or discrimination are not acceptable under any circumstances!

We respect another’s personal space
No means no. Everyone has the right to integrity. We don’t bother anyone verbally or physically. We strive to be aware and interpretive in different situations so that no one feels uncomfortable.

If we notice a person in poor condition
We ask if the person is all right. We don’t leave him alone, we take care of him ourselves or make sure someone else takes care of him. We remember that you can always ask for helpfrom the organizers. We take into account that the poor condition is not necessarily caused by intoxication, but we make sure that it is not a seizure. In case of emergency, we call 112!

If we experience or see harassment
We will try to inform the event organisers immediately so that harassment can be dealt with as quickly as possible. We can always contact the Equality Officers.

If we have offended others
We apologize and stop the unwanted behavior. We respect each other’s experiences and boundaries. Everybody screws up sometimes. The most important thing is that we learn from our mistakes and try to understand the points of view of others.

If we need help, we ask for help.
In case of problems, you can and should ask for help. Organizers and harassment contact people always help. We can always contact the Equality Officers.

We think well of each other and relax 🙂

If you experience or see harassment, please contact the event’s harassment contact person. You can also contact the association via the problem situation form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc0nfCZ1OEQfXAgvsSQERK-0mZrWYwqNw2QWRXc2zESd5PVsg/viewform

Forest excursion 21.10.2025

Whether it’s the ecology and species of old forests or just moving in nature and enjoying its beauty, Biosfääri’s forest excursion is the right place for you. Despite its original name, the excursion is not heading to a primeval forest due to the lack of primeval forests in the Helsinki metropolitan area and their high protection status. We chose Karhunkaajanmetsä near Viikki as the location, where you can find, for example, a near threatened (NT) Antrodiella citrinella, but even despite this, the city is planning to build a residential area there.

Come to the excursion to refresh and learn about the polypores as indicators of the old forests and forest mapping in general. Depending on the interest of the participants, it is also possible to talk about forest activism and Helsinki city forests. Guides on the tour are Otso Piitulainen and Otto Snellman from Luontoliitto’s forest group.

The trip starts at 15:00 and continues for 2-3 hours. You can also come for a part of the time. We go through the Karhukallio area and nearby forests as much as time and light allow. The excursion is free and you register yourself via this link: https://forms.gle/QSMUA4Y89pY8QPDr5

Lahtela is an internationally successful fencer who is currently ranked 4th in the world ranking of longswording. Excu costs about 25€ and will be held on 22.10.2025 at 14–16 at the EHMS premises in Sörnäinen. No previous experience of fencing or other combat sports is needed. Anniversary afterparty 25.10.2025

The afterparty of the anniversary banquet is celebrated in the Alina hall of the Uusi ylioppilastalo. The event begins with the academic dances (Cicapo, waltz, tango & waltz). After this, the delightful Kajo and the rollicking DJ Vi6era shall perform for us.

KAJO is an electronic schlager trio that tells stories of great emotions in the small moments of life with their music. The band’s songs are inspired by childhood landscapes, social phenomena and unattainable love. In singer-keyboarder Sara Joensuu’s, guitarist Saku Anttila’s and bassist-”kiskajäbä” Juho Salaterä’s music, organic and electronic elements meet, and the band has been described as breaking genre boundaries.

KAJO has released two albums, the latest of which Jäät lähtee in the spring of 2025. At Biosfääri’s anniversary afterparty, KAJO performs as a duo and plays new, old and borrowed material.

Spotify:

Vi6era is a shapeshifting DJ and violinist deeply rooted in the underground scene of Helsinki. With a near-decade long history of djaying, they have traversed various styles of electronic music with performances in Finland and Germany. For Vi6era, a DJ set is an independent piece; a journey with multiple phases, different feelings and surprising moments. This time, they’ll be serving a colourful mix of dance music, like tech house, indie dance, pop edits, and techno to keep you dancing until the end 💃
