During Orientation Week, we share Fresher passes. Stamps are collected by completing various tasks that familiarize with student life throughout the fresher year. There are three different completion levels, and at the beginning of the second year, the pass may get exchanged for overall patch corresponding to the level student has achieved: Microfresher, Macrofresher or Superfresher! Dates to get your fresher patches will be informed in the autumn.
In the autumn, Symbioosi ry organizes Biodiversity Games (also known as the BD Games) for all freshers in FBES. During the checkpoint-based competition, participants complete tasks that require speed, dexterity, or creative improvisation, while trying to collect as many points as possible for their team. The checkpoint hosts and judges love bribery, so even some questionable tactics are allowed in the competition… Other student organizations organize their own Fresher initiations too.
Biosfääri announces its events through its Telegram info channel, email list, Instagram, and the event calendar on its website. You can find the relevant information channels under Publicity site.
Everyone is warmly welcome to attend events organized by the student organizations under Biosfääri, regardless of their field of study. We warmly recommend joining events organized by organizations outside your own field as well. There are also numerous interdisciplinary organizations operating on the Viikki campus and across the University of Helsinki, such as hobby organizations, that are worth exploring.
Our university is a great environment for discovering new interests and trying new things with a low threshold, as well as for diving deeper into long-term interests with likeminded people. We encourage you to search and follow your own inspiration both in your studies and in your free time!
